Another warm winter so far. A warm winter that kept the water open until the nearly the third week of January. Then snow and cold weather.

We weren't very brave. We walked out where we know that water was on a foot or so deep. Still, we heard cracks. We drilled a hole and quickly measured the ice thickness and dissolved oxygen, then quickly retreated.
thin ice  Here's the data we collected
1. Ice Thickness 6 inches
2. Nitrate = undetectable
3. Dissolved Oxgyen = 8 ppm at surface, 0 ppm at bottom. Water very clear, little evidence of zooplankton.
