| Discovery Club on Ice- Jan 19, 2004 | ||
| Here's the brave members of Discovery Club who ventured out on the ice to make our winter water quality measurements. | ||
| As usual, we walked out to the lake depth marker that the DNR placed in the lake back in 1992. A 1 1/2 inch of snow had fallen the night before, but underneath the ice was mirror smooth. Club members had fun slipping and sliding. When we got out there, we drilled a hole using an ice auger. Gee...it was a lot harder than we thought it would be. | ||
| Here's the data we collected 1. Ice Thickness 9 inches 2. Lake Depth 5ft 9 in 3. dissolved oxygen 12ppm at surface, near zero at bottom 4. Nitrate = > 4.4 ppm 5. Water was greenish with lots of zooplankton 6. Temperature at botton 4.5 degrees celcius |
