frog pond

Here is the frog pond on March 27, 2005. The water is very high and there are lots of frogs calling. The ice on the lake lasted until March 17th, but melted very fast. Spring came suddenly. In the following weeks we hope to make lots of observations; including amphibians (chrous frog, leopard frog, the green tree frog, the american toad, tiger salamanders and painted turtles), water quality measruments (temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, secci distance, nitrate) and migratory birds.

Here is the southwest shoreline where we make out water quality measurments. Notice how the emergent growth is covered with water.
