Results Spring 2003

The Spring 2032 field season began on April 11 and ended on May 12. This year was notable on several accounts. First, the spring was very dry (less than 1/2") and the lake level was low enought to expose 3-4 ft of shoreline at our usual sampling site. There was little snow and the geese kept the ice open until late February. The results was little or no fish kill and a very early algae bloom (see secii distance). Although we heard a frog call index of 3 on 4 of the six days we didn't catch a single frog this year. Neither did we see any snakes under our snake boards. Our can traps near the pond are usually half-full with water, but this year they were bone dry. One positive was we caught a snapping turtle and can add it to our species list.
