Jason Project Presentation at Promega

Club members visited the Promega Co. to participate in the live simulcast of this year's Jason Project. The Jason project is an international, interdisciplinary program that uses state-of-the-art communications technology such as the Internet and satellite feeds to enable 4th- through 9th-grade students to see and talk with scientists and researchers doing field work in remote locations of the world. The project's purpose is to excite and engage students in science and technology, and to motivate and provide professional development for their teachers. This year' project was "Going to Extremes". One highlight for club members was the "space ice cream"
Our club was awarded a By Youth For Youth grant of $1,000. The grant was written by 8th grade student Millie Middleton with help from parent volunteer Sandy Kintner. The grant money will be used by club members to organize a "Marsh Day Adventure" at Patrick Marsh Wildlife Area on Saturday, May 20. Club members Millie Middleton and Mandy Kintner attended the Award Ceremony on Monday, April 10 at the Memorial Union on the UW campus. We will all remember how they torn the check.

One May 20 Club members sponsored Marsh Adventure Day at the PMMS. This allowed club members to demostrate the research activities they had been conducting all year and to highlight to the Sun Prairie community the value of the Marsh as a education tools. Activities included a Trash Hunt Contest, Nature Crafts, Migratory Bird Monitoring, Small Mammal Monitoring, Frog and Amphibian Monitoring., Macro Invertebrate sampling, Orienterring with a GPS unit. We were fortunate that a film crew from "Discover Wisconsin" was on hand to film us. Look for us on TV in about a year. Also a film crew from Kids 4 in Sun Prairie filmed us. We plan to use that video in a presentation to the Sun Prairie Planning Commission.
Royal Oaks
Club members also hosted 75 elementary students from Royal Oaks. We demostrated our research on small mammals, amphibians, macro invertebrates, and migratory birds. We also had a garter snake for the kids to see. A lot of fun and learning was had by everyone. ""
