![]() Looking for Invertebrates ![]() May 10, 2001. Another hot day. Look at the emergent growth on the pond. It was a disappointing day for catching frogs. We decided that the season was just about over. Check back soon for a summary of our results.
![]() Here we are sampling the small pond for invertebrates. We use this net and then rinsed out the contents into a tray. We observed snails, tadpoles, and insect larvae. We noted the presence of Dobsenfly larvae, which is really good. It means that we don't have a lot of pollution in our pond. We also sampled the Lake and found almost nothing. ![]() One observation we did make was an American Toad who had been hurt badly ....at first we thought it was "deformed" but then we realized another animal had bitten off part of its front and back legs...a bird?...maybe a shrew???. Boy, nature can be rough!!"" ![]() See how much of the pond has filled in with emergent growth. All those grasses provide excellent habitat for a wide variety of wildlife.!! |
