![]() The Lake is Open ![]() April 12, 2001 was not a great day to be at the marsh. The air temperature was 43oF with a 20 mph wind. But, even so we could see more signs of spring. We were met with a full chorus of frog calls...we could even hear leopold frogs, but we only caught one chorus frog in our traps.
![]() This was the first club meeting with the lake open. The lake opened on April 6th...a full month later than last year. ![]() A big surprise was how clear the lake was. We measured a Secci distance of over 12 inches....our waders wouldn't go any further out!...our largest number yet. The lake temperature was 10 degrees C...up six degrees from last week. ![]() The temperature of the small pond was only 7.6 degrees C..it actually fell. This is another example of how the water temperature in the small pond responds much more quickly to air temperature. ![]() The mightly marsh watchers will return next week to see how far spring as come...check back then. |
