![]() The First Frog Calls of the Season For the first time Discovey Club members were greated with the sounds of chorus frogs. We arrived an hour after a thnderstorm had passed through. Yep, spring is finally here!
WOW! We caught our first frog of the season. It was a western chorus frog. We weighted and measured the frog and recorded the data. . As you can see the lake lake was still 80% covered with ice (slush really). We did measure the oxygen levels in the large lake and were surprised that they gone from 2 ppm in the dead of winter to 16 ppm (at least in 18 inches of water close to shore). Once the ice is off it must not take long for oxygen to get back into the water, especially when it rains. We also measured the temperture of the water...4 degrees C and the Secci distance (9 inches). Here we are...the fearless frog hunters. Check back in the coming weeks to find what else we discover out at the marsh. |
